The Feast of Mercy or Divine Mercy Sunday
The Church calendar is a continuum rather than a sequence of isolated events. We use all of Lent to prepare our hearts not just for the Triduum and Resurrection Sunday but also for the great Feast of Mercy. Divine Mercy Sunday is the conclusion of the solemn octave of Easter and is the day chosen by Jesus to pour out a super-abundance of grace.
"On that day all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the Fount of My Mercy." (Jesus to St. Faustina)
This novena follows the form of the 54-Day Novena originating in Italy in 1884. It consists of praying a rotation of the Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious mysteries of the Rosary. Three novenas are prayed in petition (27 days) followed by three novenas in thanksgiving for graces granted (27 days) for a total of 54 days. The Novena always begins with the Joyful mysteries no matter the day of the week. Learn more about the origins of this Novena.
Take our Lady's hand and let her guide you through Lent to the Feast of Mercy.
