The Acts of the Apostles are part of the New Testament; it follows the Gospel according to John. The Book of Acts is made of 28 chapters, and it is the most recent Biblical text to have been written. It contains the stories of important Christian figures, such as Paul, Stephen, Peter, Philip, etc. Let us explore the many exploits of the believers in Christ, as they are recounted in the Book of Acts.
Jesus’ coming into the world was a turning point in the History of humanity, beginning with the Apostles. Indeed, the Apostles accompanied Jesus for almost 3 years and a half, witnessing His miracles, and learning how to reproduce them. When Christ ascended into Heaven, He instructed His Apostles one essential thing: to wait for the Holy Spirit. In the Acts of the Apostles, we can learn about the first Pentecost, when 120 disciples of Christ were baptized with fire, and spoke of the wonders of Christ in every tongue known to man. The disciples of Jesus were transformed by this event. Peter became the main figure of the new Christian Church: he converted 3000 people in one day.

The Book of Acts can also help you learn more about the organization of the “primitive Church.” “All the believers were together and had everything in common.” (Acts 2: 44). It recalls the persecution of the Church at that time, and how bravely She faced it. The primitive Church was characterized by the many miracles and healings performed by Her followers, such as the resurrection of Dorcas.
The Book of Apostles tells the story of Paul’s miraculous conversion, as well as the details of his ministry, from his first steps into the Christian faith, to his many travels across the Mediterranean region accompanied by Barnabas, Timothy, or Silas. He helped the construction of many Churches in his travels, and continued to guide the Christians within them through his many letters, called the Pauline Epistles.
We know that Luke was a physicist of Greek origins, and a great friend and disciple of Paul. He is also recognized as the author of the Gospel of Luke.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
(Acts 1:8)
“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.”
(Acts 2:1-4)
“With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all”
(Acts 4:33)
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”
(Acts 2:42)
“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.”
(Acts 10:38)
