The Book of Genesis is the first book of the Bible. It is part of the Old Testament. The Book of Genesis contains 50 chapters, dedicated to presenting the lives of the first humans, Adam and Eve, of their descendants, and of the people born of Noah after the story of the flood. What is the Story of Genesis?

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”

The Bible begins with the story of creation. What was only a formless and empty mass was illuminated and then worked by God. By the word of God were created the sky, the earth, the animals, the trees, the seas, and everything else. The Bible also tells us that God completed his work in six days and on the seventh day he rested from all his work.

Adam and Eve

Adam and Eve are presented as the first man and woman created by God. They lived in the garden of Eden, but were cast out from this place after disobeying the Lord’s commands. Noah’s Ark

In a time when evil had won over the hearts of mankind, God decided to purge the earth from the human race by sending down a flood. Fortunately, there was a just man, Noah, who, obeying God, built an ark and was able to save his life, that of his wife, his sons and their wives and a pair of each type of animal.

The Tower of Babel

The Bible reveals to us that there was a time when humans only spoke one common language. They were emboldened to build a tower tall enough to reach the heavens, but God confounded their speech and scattered them around the world.

Father Abraham

Abraham’s story is about a man of great faith. Instructed by God to leave everything behind him, Abraham went on a journey to an unknown land, as he was promised his many descendants would live where he was headed. In spite of his and his wife’s old age, Abraham kept faith in God’s word. He was rewarded with a son, Isaac, who himself had a son with Rebecca, named Jacob, from whom descend the 12 tribes of Israel.

The book of Genesis ends with the story of Jacob’s sons. The Book of Genesis ends with the story of Jacob’s sons, who were born from his union with his two wives Rachel and Leah and his two concubines. Jacob had tweve sons: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph and Benjamin, and a daughter, Dinah. It was these sons who were blessed by their father Israel and became the twelve tribes of Israel, as we know them today.

Genesis 1

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” (Genesis 1:27-27)

Genesis 2

“The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” (Genesis 2:18)

Genesis 3

“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” (Genesis 3:15)

Genesis 12

“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you” (Genesis 12:2-3)

Genesis 13

The LORD said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever. I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted. Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.”  (Genesis 13:14-17)

Genesis 15

After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.” (Genesis 15:1)

Genesis 50

You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. (Genesis 50:20)
