As they return from Jerusalem, Mary and Joseph realize that they have lost Jesus, who was then 12 years old. They find him three days later in the Temple, among the doctors. This mystery meditated on in the prayer of the rosary tells of a quest: those of two parents, certainly, but also our own spiritual quest. Discover how to pray and meditate on the last of the joyful mysteries of the rosary.
Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”
“Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” But they did not understand what he was saying to them.
Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.
This mystery closes the cycle of the 5 joyful mysteries, the first series of the mysteries of the prayer of the rosary. His meditation, on a decade of the rosary, follows that of the annunciation, the visitation, the birth of Jesus and his presentation in the Temple by Mary and Joseph.

With this mystery, we can ask God to know that we too are looking for Jesus, to look for Him in everything we do, everywhere we go.
“To seek God is to be sought by Him.” (Saint Bernard of Clairvaux)
“Find God and you will find the meaning of your life” (Saint Carlo Acutis)
“ If we go back to our own heart, we find God at the bottom.” (Saint Augustine)
“To conform in everything to the will of God, and to take all his pleasure in it, is to live an angelic life on earth, and even to live the life of Jesus Christ” (Saint Vincent de Paul)
“Do not tire yourself for things that cause haste, trouble and affliction. Only one thing is necessary: to lift the spirit and love God. “(Saint Padre Pio)
“The word ‘holy’ denotes God’s particular nature. He alone is the Holy One. Man becomes holy as he starts to be with God. To be with God is to set aside what is merely me and become one with God’s will in its entirety. Yet, this liberation from self may prove painful and is never achieved once and for all.” - Benedict XVI
