The Magnificat, or “Song of Mary” is a Catholic prayer or canticle taken from the Gospel of Luke (Luke 1: 46-56):
“And Mary said:
My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me, holy is his name. His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.”
The verses of the Magnificat are spoken by Mary, filled with the Holy Spirit on the day of visitation to Her cousin Elizabeth. This Bible passage was turned into a beautiful prayer to the Virgin Mary.
“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for He has looked with favor on His humble servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed,
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is His Name.
He has mercy on those who fear Him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
He has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich He has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of His servant Israel
for He has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise He made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children forever.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever.
Amen.”

The Magnificat is an evangelical canticle that you can pray on your own, as a morning or night prayer, or as an act of consecration to the Virgin Mary. It is traditionally recited during the Liturgy of the Hours, or in the evening during Vespers by Chrisitans around the world.
