St. Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face joined the Carmelite Order, after relentlessly asking for the Pope’s authorization. She lived humbly, and dedicated a fervent devotion to Jesus Christ throughout her journey on earth. A few moments before joining the Father in Heaven, she assured that she wanted to: “spend [her] heaven doing good on earth.”
Prayer was very important to St. Therese. People today are still fervently praying to St Therese of Lisieux. She can obtain for us abounding graces: discover a few prayers to “the Little Flower” to recite anytime you want!
“O Little Therese of the Child Jesus,
please pick a rose for me from the heavenly gardens,
and send it to me as a message of love.
O little flower of Jesus, ask God today to grant the favors,
I now place with confidence in your hands.
(name your request)
St. Therese, help me to always believe,
as you did in God's great love for me,
so that I might imitate your "Little Way" each day.
Amen.”
“O Glorious St. Therese,
whom Almighty God has raised up to aid and inspire the human family,
I implore your Miraculous Intercession.
You are so powerful in obtaining every need of body and spirit from the Heart of God.
Holy Mother Church proclaims you "Prodigy of Miracles, the greatest saint of Modern Times."
Now I fervently beseech you to answer my petition
(name your request)
and to carry out your promises of spending heaven doing good on earth,
of letting fall from Heaven a Shower of Roses.
Little Flower, give me your childlike faith,
to see the Face of God in the people and experiences of my life,
and to love God with full confidence.
St. Therese, my Carmelite Sister,
I will fulfill your plea "to be made known everywhere"
and I will continue to lead others to Jesus through you.
Amen.”
“O St. Therese of the Child Jesus,
You found the way to confidence and love,
May we receive from your powerful intercession the grace to follow this way with absolute trust in the Lord.
Oh St. Therese, intercede on our behalf.
Obtain for us to hope in God only, and not rely on our own strength.
Teach us to see our imperfections as gifts from the Lord,
to be discreet and leave all the room to Jesus,
Do not research glory and power, but to hide lovingly in the arms of Jesus.
Obtain for us to always work to quench Christ’s thirst for love,
to be able to see the virtues of our neighbours, and not their weaknesses,
to always remain humble.
May we be grateful to the Lord in all things,
Obtain for us, we pray you, to always trust in God’s love for all his children.
Saint Therese, pray for us!”
Pope Pius X called St. Therese of Lisieux :“The greatest saint of modern times”. Her intercession on our behalf is powerful: she can obtain so many grace blessings that some talk about a “storm of Glory!” You can pray to St. Therese any time you want or need, and entrust her with any specific intention. However, St. Therese famously intervenes in special circumstances.
Many people pray to St. Therese for the grace of healing, or for the access to her “Little Way”. There are novenas to St. Therese to obtain the graces of charity, purity and humility; miraculous prayers, and even a miraculous novena to pray for a specific, personal intention.
Since 1992, people have been celebrating a special liturgical event on the 1rst of October, the Feast Day of St. Therese. It is a commemoration of a famous quote by St. Therese: “when I die, I will send down a shower of roses from the heavens.”
When celebrating her Feast Day, people can write a letter to St. Therese to ask for her intercession, and entrust their special petitions to a prayer community.
It is customary for Carmelites to write poems. St. Therese’s older sister, Pauline, wrote beautiful poetry. She was notably elected as the prioress of her Congregation in 1893, at which point Therese became the official poet of the nunnery.
Therese’s poems are filled with beautiful spirituality: more than poems, they are profound professions of love to the Lord, and as such, it can be interesting to use them to accompany your prayers.
The “Little Flower” promised she would obtain for us abounding graces from Heaven, and she did! Prayer was an essential part of her life, it helped her dedicate each day to proclaiming her love for Christ. You too can pray every day with quotes from St. Therese of Lisieux. You can also join a prayer community on Hozana to entrust all your intentions to St. Therese!
