St. Joseph, King David’s descendant and foster-father of Jesus, was an example of fatherhood, work and devotion to the Lord. His deep intimacy with the mystery of the incarnation makes him an exceptional saint. Prayers to St. Joseph are powerful weapons against distress. Since he took care of Jesus, his adoptive son, he takes care of us and he introduces our prayers to God with love and compassion.
Below are two prayers to St. Joseph. The first one is a prayer to ask St. Joseph for a miracle, and the second one is a prayer deemed “unfailing”, dating back to the year 50 A.D. This last one is said to have been sent by Pope Julius II to Emperor Charles in 1505, when he was going into battle.
It is important to keep in mind that God is not a magician and that we should not be waiting for Him to miraculously grant our wishes. God is our father in heaven, and His kindness and love for us are endless. He knows what we need far better than we do, and He wants our happiness. Even though we might sometimes have the feeling that He is not listening, the Lord is with us and never gives up on us.

Please obtain for me from the kind Heart of Jesus the help and the graces necessary for my spiritual and temporal welfare. I ask particularly for the grace of a happy death and the special favor I now implore.

“Oh, St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interest and desires.
Oh, St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your divine Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers.
Oh, St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you, and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him close in my name and kiss His fine head for me and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, patron of departing souls, pray for me. Amen.”
