The Sanctus is part of the Eucharistic prayer in the Mass Ordinary. It is frequently paired with the first verses of the Te Deum. Like Gloria and the Agnus Dei, Sanctus is originally a Latin prayer. It is an acclamation to praise the Lord, taken from the Book of Isaiah, the Book of Revelations, and Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem in the Gospel of Matthew.
“Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus
Dominus Deus Sabaoth
Pleni sunt coeli et terra
Gloria tua
Hosanna in excelsis
Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini
Hosanna in excelsis”
“Holy, holy, holy,
Lord, God of power and might.
Heaven and earth are filled with Your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna to God in the highest”
