Pray a Novena to St. Jude

St. Jude is the Patron Saint of Desperate Causes or Lost Causes! He is especially prayed to for cancer and other grave illnesses when we feel that there is little hope left. Many hospitals, research centers, and churches have been named after him. Tradition has it that King Abgar of Edessa, asked Jesus to cure him of leprosy and so Jesus sent an image of himself with St. Jude. When the King saw Jesus’ image, he immediately was cured and converted to Christianity.  Both St. Bridget of Sweden and St. Bernard, claim to have had visions from God asking them to accept St. Jude as "The Patron Saint of the Impossible." St. Jude continues to intercede and heal our many wounds, both physical and spiritual.

Two Popular Novenas to St. Jude

These two novenas are very short but extremely effective. Choose the novena that speaks to your heart and gives you the comfort that you need in times of trouble. You can say either one for nine consecutive days.

Faithful Servant St. Jude

“Most holy Apostle, St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the Church honors and invokes you universally, as the patron of difficult cases, of things almost despaired of.
 
Pray for me, I am so helpless and alone.
Intercede with God for me that He bring visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolation and help of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations, and sufferings, particularly:

“Glorious Saint Jude Thaddeus, by those sublime privileges with which you were adorned in your lifetime, namely, your relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ according to the flesh, and your vocation to be an Apostle, and by that glory which now is yours in heaven as the reward of your apostolic labors and your martyrdom, obtain for me from the Giver of every good and perfect gift all the graces of which I stand in need: (Mention your request).

What is a Novena?

A Novena is a traditional type of Catholic prayer which consists of praying for nine consecutive days for a specific intention or a particular grace. You can pray to God directly or ask the Virgin Mary or a saint to intercede for you. In the Catholic tradition many novenas have been made to different saints. Some popular saints are St. Joseph, St. Rita, and St. Anthony. Praying for nine consecutive days gives you time to let go of your pains and troubles and abandon them into the hands of God, with or without the intercession of a saint. This intense form of prayer, prepares your heart to receive and be aware of God’s many graces in your life.

When Can You Start?

NOW! If you feel in your heart that you need to pray for a particular intention or grace, start right away! Sometimes people pray a novena to give thanks to a particular saint. For St. Jude this would be done 8 days before his feast day of October 28th so as to finish the novena on his feast day.

Pray Other Novenas with Hozana

Even if you are at a bedside and cannot leave to go pray in a church, you can find consolation and joy by praying with others in a Hozana prayer community or join a St. Jude Novena Prayer group.
