Litany of St. Anthony

The litany of the saints is a set of invocations of all or many of the saints and their many virtues, sung or recited collectively. Some litanies are  created and recited to honor one specific saint: among the many prayers to St. Anthony of Padua, there exists the Litany of St. Anthony of Padua.

Why Pray the Litany of St. Anthony

Anthony of Padua was a humble Friar monk, who dedicated his life to serving the poor and the sick, and to whom the Lord provided many gifts. He was a fantastic preacher, well-versed in the Holy Scriptures, and his impact on the transmission of faith still resonates today, particularly thanks to his many sermons. He was named Doctor of the Church in 1946.

St. Anthony of Padua is considered a “thaumaturge”: a performer of miracles and healings. He was canonized less than a year after his death, and Christians around the world still pray to him devoutly, especially in preparation for his feast day (july 13th). On this occasion, you can pray with the 13 days novena to St. Anthony of Padua, or the 13 Tuesdays novena.

How to Pray to St. Anthony for Special Requests?

Litanies are prayers that you usually recite during celebrations, along with a community (for the salvation of the many sinners invoking his name, you say: “pray for us”). However, you can still add a special intention to litanies. There are also many prayers to entrust your more personal requests to the “Saint of Miracles”, such as the Miracle Prayer of St. Anthony of Padua, and the prayers to obtain graces and blessings. As the patron of Lost things, Anthony of Padua is often solicited by the faithful to help them recover things; his help can even be sought to find love!
