Jobs are changing, and with these mutations come economic problems, company reorganizations, and other factors that can lead you to make big decisions, such as switching career orientations, moving out of your home, etc.
At some point in your life, you will have to find a new job. And it might even be that you will find yourself in this situation many, many times! Having a career is important, as it helps you support yourself and provide for your family. But, going further than that, as Pope Francis reminds us, dignity, spiritual and social development is tied to work, which is why it is important to pray for your work, that it may be accessible, and respectful of everyone.
Students, unemployed citizens, people who are currently job hunting… all should pray to the Lord, and ask that He guides us towards a job that will help us live, and give us a sense of dignity. More importantly, let us pray to find a job that will allow us to put to good use the graces and gifts that God placed in each of us to serve others.
“Lord God look down upon us! Look at this city, this island. Look upon our families.
Lord, you were not without a job, you were a carpenter, you were happy.
Lord, we have no work.
The idols want to rob us of our dignity. The unjust systems want to rob us of hope.
Lord, do not leave us on our own. Help us to help each other; so that we forget our selfishness a little and feel in our heart the “we”, the we of a people who want to keep on going.
Lord Jesus, you were never out of work, give us work and teach us to fight for work and bless us all. In the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
“Dear Saint Joseph, you were yourself once faced with the responsibility of providing the necessities of life for Jesus and Mary. Look down with fatherly compassion upon me in my anxiety over my present inability to support my family.
Please help me to find gainful employment very soon, so that this heavy burden of concern will be lifted from my heart and that I am soon able to provide for those whom God has entrusted to my care. Help us to guard against bitterness and discouragement, so that we may emerge from this trial spiritually enriched and with even greater blessings from God.
Amen.”
