The Bible often uses the phrase: “child of God.” So, who exactly are the “children of God”? and what does the child- parent relationship with God mean for us?
Every human being, created in the image of God, was made by our Father, and the act of creation gives us a unique bond of love with the Almighty. Beyond that, each of us is called personally to become an adopted child of God through baptism and through Jesus Christ. By His life and death, he has bought us back from sin and by becoming human with us he has given us the chance to become His siblings with God as our father.
In other words, baptism is the way in which we can fully engage with our relationship with God as our parent and receive the Holy Spirit into our life. Each of us is then called as a baptized Child of God to use our intelligence and talents to do His will on earth.

“The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God”. (John 1:9-12)
“Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So, you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.” (Galatians 4:6-7)

“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” (Romans 8:14)
“This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.” (1 John 3:10)
Through baptism, God the Father has adopted us as His much-beloved children: we are welcomed into the same close and loving relationship which exists between Jesus and his father. Just like Jesus, we can call out “Abba, Father” to the one whose love is never ending.
