Frequently Asked Questions About Angels in the Bible

Where are guardian angels mentioned in the Bible?

While the term “guardian angel” isn't found in the Bible, Scripture shows that some of God's angels are very close to us:

They guide and protect us, as in the story of Tobit where the angel reassures Tobit's father about guiding him on his journey: “I will go with him; I am familiar with the way and have often traveled to Media and crossed all its plains and mountains. Every road is familiar to me.” (Tobit 5:10)

Each of us may have personal angelic protection, as Jesus mentions in Matthew: “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.” (Matthew 18:10)

What do angels look like according to the Bible?

As spiritual beings, angels can take many forms in Scripture. When appearing on earth, they often look like men, such as in the Ascension account: “They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 'Men of Galilee,' they said, 'why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.'” (Acts 1:10-11, NIV)

However, through prophetic visions and John's Revelation, we see more varied descriptions that differ from popular imagery: “Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.” (Isaiah 6:2)

Which psalm mentions angels?

Several psalms reference angels. Psalm 91 particularly speaks of angelic protection: “He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” (Psalm 91:11-12)
