Strength, or fortitude, is “the moral virtue that ensures firmness in difficulties and constancy in pursuing good” (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1808 p.444). Fortitude is the spirit of strength which allows us to resist temptations, conquer our fears, overcome difficulties and sometimes even to give our life for what is right. Fortitude is also a gift from God, as it is said in the Psalms: “The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation” (Psalm 118:14). 

Whenever we face challenging times, let us turn to the Lord and allow Him to fill us with His strength and help us to face our worries! Meditate on these 14 bible verses on strength and fortitude and feel certain that the All Powerful One will send us His spirit!

Strength and Power come from God

“Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all.” (1 Chronicles 29:12)

“Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.” (1 Chronicles 29:11)

Fortitude, a virtue which we should practice

“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” (1 Corinthians 16:13)

Finding our strength in the Lord

It is in weakness that I am strong

God wants to fill us with His spirit of strength and courage 

“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” (2 Timothy:1-7)

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1: 8)
