Pride is the first of the seven deadly sins, because “pride is the beginning of sin” (Wisdom of Ben Sira 10:13). It has been the worst of all sins ever since it caused Lucifer to want to be equal to God, and fall from grace. The reason the bible tells us that “God resists the proud” (James 4:6) is that pride is a rebellion against God himself. Pride wants us to believe that we can stand before God without humility or gratitude. This is why it is so important to battle against this sin that poisons the soul and leads to all other vices!

“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” (Proverbs 16:18)

Cultivating a humble heart
